A typical Scout day with DBX

Half-day sessions run this shape. Full days add a longer on-water block and a full inter-crew regatta.

1 Arrival

Welcome and register

Meet the DBX team, collect equipment and get settled. Leaders receive the session plan and safety overview.
2 30 minutes

Safety briefing and technique

Water safety, equipment fitting and paddling technique on the bank. Interactive and hands-on, not a lecture.
3 90 minutes

On-water drills and race

Board the boats, practise technique, complete crew drills, then race. Coaches provide guidance and safety cover throughout.

Everything a group needs is provided. Leaders bring the young people and warm clothes, we bring the rest.

Every requirement, delivered on the day

The session is structured so leaders can sign off the badge afterwards, and we send a written summary of what each group covered.

Water safety: Buoyancy, boat awareness, capsize drill
Paddle technique: Grip, posture, stroke entry and exit
Teamwork: Paddling in time, responding to the drummer
Race day: Crew versus crew racing

Paddles and buoyancy aids, a BDA-qualified lead coach and assistants, a qualified helm on every boat, safety boat cover, and a written session summary for badge records.
